In our house, we have “boys’ night” and “girl’s night” monthly. Since my daughter and I are outnumbered 3 to 2 we enjoy locking ourselves in my room, with special snacks, nail polish, makeup, and of course some princess movies. Don’t get me wrong my daughter and I have our rough and tough sides too, but a little “girl time” is good for the soul. The boys will go downstairs with their snacks, play games, and watch movies. We enjoy this night so much every month we decided to make it the theme for her birthday one year! It was a “SPA”tacular hit!
Now I would love to be able to go to one of those little princess spas places and have all of her friends come with us but the fact of the matter is that is beyond our budget. So I had to put my thinking cap on and figure it out for my girl. This is what we came up with and we can tell you all of the girls loved every moment of it.
We chose our theme to be Waffles and Facials. Waffles can be served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner but we chose the morning brunch time. This was PERFECT because all I had to do was get waffle mix, fruit, cupcakes, and some snacks. How simple is that? For a drink, we thought it would make it “spa-like” by getting some pink sparkling cider and giving them fancy glasses. We also did not forget the mommas attending and of course had a nice little mimosa bar (with Prosecco, of course, our preferred sparkling drink).
For this spa party, we looked at what spa activities we could do. For our girl night, we do our nails and facials. We cleared one room and set up different stations, Nails, Pedicures, Facials, and even a small craft. We decorated the room with sparkling table cloths that I had from another event (this is one of my tricks for parties, I always save decorations and/or buy decorations knowing that they have multiple uses). We cleared the top of my buffet, put a tablecloth down, and set up the water bottles, facial items, and their “Champagne”. I also love using the battery-operated twinkle lights and was able to use them on the tables to glam it up.
We had multiple stations for the girls to rotate through so that they would not feel left out waiting while the others were getting one service done. We found cute satin robes on Amazon and Circuit cut each girl’s name on them. If you do not have a Circuit, you could order their names from someone you know or find some on Etsy. Once they had their names on them we set them off to their stations for their spectacular experience.
Spa Stations
- Nails – Here we set up a table with two chairs across from each other. I got the Piggy Paint nail polish (a 4 color set). We put out water for their hands to soak in, little cloths to dry, lotion to moisturize their hands, and emery boards. We did also have nail polish remover on hand in case they had nail polish on.
- Facials – For this station we had the girls sit in a reclining rocker. We washed their face first with a warm washcloth then had them pick a mask out and a fun spa headband. We had purchased Epielle Character masks that came with an assortment of animals on them. We told the girls that if at all it became uncomfortable that we could take it off immediately. ALWAYS watch what you’re putting on children’s skin and ask their parents first. Before the girls arrived I messaged all of their parents and told them the exact plan of this party to make sure that it was ok. After their mask was done doing what it does we took off the mask and again washed their face with a warm washcloth. Childrens facial mask are a fun and easy way to bring the spa experience home.
- Pedicures – Since buying multiple foot baths was out of the question I went out on a mission to find something they could rest both of their feet in. First, stop at the dollar store. I searched around and BINGO found a squarish 4-inch deep basin. I brought it home and quickly removed the label once I read it. No one had to know it was a kitty litter tray, haha. We filled these with “warm” water and put some glass beads in them. We had each girl pick out a bath bomb. We had them put their toes in first to make sure the water was at an ok temperature and then let them put their feet in with the bath bomb. After they soaked a little we dried them off and let them pick a color. You can get fancy and get a pedicure tub like this one found on Pedicure tub . This you could use after the party by ourself with a glass of wine.
Craft Time
Girls are super easy when it comes to crafts. All they want to do is make something. In the aisles at our Michaels craft store and I bet the majority of them they always have $1 little wooden figures. I was able to find a wooden heart with a photo clip on it. Then gave the girls gel glitter pens and let them be creative. The intent was to be able to send them pictures of themselves at the party after and they would have someplace to show them off. The girls giggled and smiled just creating beauty.
Keeping it Simple with Waffles!
Like we mentioned before, super simple. We got a box of waffle mix, maple syrup (we are partial to the real maple syrup), fruit to put on it, popcorn (because that is what our princess picked out), and cupcakes. The girls are it all! Oh and we had whip cream and sprinkles! YUM! These are some of our favorite waffles Kodiak birthday waffle mix . Keep in mind a waffle machine can only make a few at time so making them ahead and keep them warm in the oven.
This was a very inexpensive way to bring a SPA party to your home on a reasonable budget. The girls had a blast and walked away feeling special and pampered. Their favors were built into the party as well, one being the robe with their name on it, the spa headband, and the craft. Score, Check! Party was complete with lots of smiles!
Now here is where we refer to our Faithful Five P’s to a CREATIVELY ORGANIZED PARTY with a bit of FUN CHAOS. Once you establish these you are ready to go!
