- Purpose – This is the starter question as always. What is the purpose of your event? Is this to celebrate a birthday? Holiday? Graduation etc. Why are you planning an event? If you’re just like me I can come up with 1,000,000 reasons to celebrate something but you have to narrow it down to what the purpose of the event is.
- People – When determining who you are inviting you will need to think about a few different things. When we are looking at an invite list it often will differ depending on what we are celebrating and who we are celebrating. Traditionally for monumental birthdays, sacraments, and other life transition parties our families tend to invite a more significant number of people. For birthdays that don’t fall into that category, we tend to first look at our budget and then think about the age of the person that we are celebrating. Our mother taught us that the number you were turning was how many friends you were allowed to invite. As much as we try to stick to this rule it often gets hard as the children get older and friends are developed. That being said, most of the time the number of invitations that are given depends on the place the party will be at and the budget that we have put into place.
- Price – Budget isn’t always a fun thing to think about but is important. We would love to say we have an endless amount of money to spend on celebrations but the truth for many of us is that we don’t. So how do we create a memorable celebration on a budget? It’s quite simple.
- Plan – You should start thinking about planning well in advance of the party (at least a few months). This will allow you to look around for the best deals on decorations, location, and even food. Though we have planned many successful parties in a short amount of time we would not recommend that becoming a habit.
- Prepare – Depending on the location of the party preparation can take lots of different routes. If it is at your house, you have days to think about decorations and where everything can be set up. If it is outside of your home make sure you visit the venue so you are prepared and have a plan of action when you arrive! So much more to come on this!!
As always make sure to PLAY! Enjoy the imperfections of every moment! Nothing is perfect and no activity is either!
